These hair bows are for me- made at the Cousin Craft Night

Birds Nest in brown.  Made with Tulle, Organza, and Satin.  Cut in oval shapes and the edges singed with a lighter.  I then sewed three ivory pearl "eggs" off center.  This is a more elegant hair piece- meaning I can wear it with nicer clothes.

This is made from deep red silk flowers.  I love to wear this with black clothing.  It has two medium flowers and one small.  I used white pearls for the middle.

This is my favorite hair bow to wear.  It has that vintage shabby chic look.  I got some trim at Joann's for less than $2.  I cut this down no lower than 18 inches, but I don't remember that exact number.  I sewed a wide basting stitch at the bottom of the lace and formed a rosette.  I glued it to some coordinating felt, and then glued on a gem, large white pearl, and medium ivory pearl to the middle of the rosette.

I taught a hair bow class for YW/ RS at church and showed the ladies and young women how to make these bows.  Matt's cousin Laura taught me how to make this shabby fabric hair flower at our monthly Cousin Craft Night.  I gave this one to one of my Young Women to use as a Secret Sister at Girls Camp, because she was gone to EFY and missed the class.

The hair bows are so fun to make and wear!  I need to find some hair clips that are better suited for me.  Me hair is too thick, therefore the clips don't want to stay in place for very long.  I just deal with it now, but soon I will have to make a new batch with better components.  The nice thing about making your own hair bows is the fact that the options are unlimited.

This one was for a baby shower gift, but I dropped some blue paint on some of the petals; so it is for Abbie to wear now.

Headband Trend

Headbands are everywhere you look. There are tutorials everywhere, and even without those it is easy to come up with some of your own. I found this tutorial from Ruffles and Stuff and they are so easy to do. Mine are hand sewn, as the sewing machine needle did not like trying to go through the thick rubber hairband. The options are endless, because the trim options at Joann's and the notions to hook to the headbands are endless. The total per headband would be about $2.50. Not bad, considering you can customize a headband for every outfit. The only real problem I have run into is the fact that I have a nice round noggin. I need to find a way to get it to stay where I want it to; and not slip off, flicking some poor unsuspecting person in the eye like a slingshot.

Birthday Bow

To go along with the Birthday Butterfly, I also made a birthday bow. Buttons and ribbon are so addicting. I love having everything separated by color, each with it's own kind. Nerdy I Know.

All I did was loop the ribbon how I wanted it to look in the end and ran a stitch or two through the middle and hot glued it to the clip. I then hot glued the button on, covering up my stitches. All you need after that is a cute little head to clip it to.

Sweet Baby Bows

I started off by making something that could hold baby bows. I took a 6x6 inch block of wood and painted it with an off-white craft paint. I wanted it to be more of a cream, but you go with what you have on hand. I then "roughed" it up with some dark brown craft paint. After the paint dried I took two silk flowers, broke them down, and put them back together into one fuller flower. (Say that five times fast!) I left out the plastic pieces from the middle and used a jumbo epoxy brad to hold all of the flower pieces together. I also chose to "rough" up and dust the flower petals with the same dark brown craft paint. I then glued it on my freshly painted, dry wood block.
I then took a two yard length of ribbon and folded it in half to find the mid point. Once I figured out how much ribbon I wanted to show above the wood block to use as the hanger, I glued my ribbon to the back of my wood block. When I completed this step hindsight called me and let me know that I should have glued my ribbon on BEFORE my flower. Oh well live and learn. I cut my ribbon ends off at an angle so that they look more finished, but I still need to Fraycheck or burn the ends to keep them from fraying.

*Hair clips (I got a box of 100 at Sally's Beauty Supply for $3)

*Coordinating Ribbon the width of your clip

*Glue Gun

I did not pay full price for any of the supplies for the hair bows. I watched for sales and waited for coupons in the Sunday paper, as well as printing them off of the Internet. Most craft stores now accept competitor's coupons so you can get a bunch of stuff at once. Practically two for one, yea:)
